Flan : Step-By-Step Recipe

Flan is a popular Spanish dessert, a creamy custard with a layer of soft caramel on top. It is both smooth and rich, often enjoyed after meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

  1. Make the caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns golden brown. Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom.
  2. Prepare the custard: In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs. Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  3. Combine: Carefully pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  4. Bake: Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan filled with water (water bath). Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until set.
  5. Cool and serve: Let it cool completely, then refrigerate. Serve by turning it out onto a plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the flan.
