Tortilla Española, also known as Spanish omlet, is a traditional dish made from simple ingredients: potatoes, onions, and eggs. It is served both hot and cold, often enjoyed as a tapas dish.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 6 large eggs
- Olive oil, for frying
- Salt, to taste
Preparation Steps
- Cook the potatoes and onions: In a large frying pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced potatoes and chopped onion, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
- Whisk the eggs: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and season with salt.
- Combine and cook: Drain the potatoes and onions from the oil and add them to the eggs, mixing well. In the same frying pan, add a bit more oil and pour in the potato-egg mixture. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until the bottom is set, then flip.
- Finish cooking: Cook the other side for another 5-6 minutes until it is fully set.
- Serve: Allow to cool slightly, then slice and serve it warm or cold.
