Tortilla Española (Spanish Omelet) : Step-By-Step Recipe

Tortilla Española, also known as Spanish omlet, is a traditional dish made from simple ingredients: potatoes, onions, and eggs. It is served both hot and cold, often enjoyed as a tapas dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 6 large eggs
  • Olive oil, for frying
  • Salt, to taste

Preparation Steps

  1. Cook the potatoes and onions: In a large frying pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced potatoes and chopped onion, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. Whisk the eggs: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and season with salt.
  3. Combine and cook: Drain the potatoes and onions from the oil and add them to the eggs, mixing well. In the same frying pan, add a bit more oil and pour in the potato-egg mixture. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until the bottom is set, then flip.
  4. Finish cooking: Cook the other side for another 5-6 minutes until it is fully set.
  5. Serve: Allow to cool slightly, then slice and serve it warm or cold.
