Ingredients
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup strong coffee, cooled
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfingers
- Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
Preparation Steps
- Prepare the custard: In a saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar over medium heat until pale. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Allow to cool.
- Mix with mascarpone: Once the custard is cooled, gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
- Combine coffee and liqueur: In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
- Layer the dessert: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, being careful not to soak them. Arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in a rectangular dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat layers: Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Chill and serve: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
