Tiramisu : Step-By-Step Recipe

This iconic Italian dessert layers coffee-soaked ladyfingers with a rich mascarpone cream and is dusted with cocoa powder.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting

Preparation Steps

  1. Prepare the custard: In a saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar over medium heat until pale. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Allow to cool.
  2. Mix with mascarpone: Once the custard is cooled, gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  3. Combine coffee and liqueur: In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
  4. Layer the dessert: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, being careful not to soak them. Arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in a rectangular dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  5. Repeat layers: Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  6. Chill and serve: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
